Nanoplasmonics has developed in a vibrant field and provides an ideal tool novel sensing platforms. However, manufacturing engineered media suffers from diverse bottlenecks: the scalable manufacturing over large areas, the uniform assembly of three-dimensional (3D) nanostructures and the fabrication of hybrid complexes. We address all these issues designing and realizing performant functional active media with self-similar fractal properties. Our findings can pave the road of functional metamaterials towards other applications such as solar cells and light harvesting.
